For the third time in five games this season, the Grand Canyon University men's soccer team (2-3-0) played into extra minutes, this time staking a 1-0 victory over Sacramento State (2-3-1) in overtime at Hornet Field in Sacramento, Calif. The game was part of the semi-annual Copa de Causeway, a four team, two-site weekend tournament hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a tie to determine a champion while an all-Tournament team will also be announced following Sunday's games. If UC Davis defeats Air Force later tonight, they will compete with GCU for the tournament title on Sunday.

Junior transfer goalkeeper Philip Poser made three saves to earn the shutout in his HBU debut, and junior midfielder Alex Baez scored his first-collegiate goal, as the Huskies defeated Belmont, 4-0, Friday to conclude the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational. Patrick Toh led HBU (1-2-2) with eight shots and four shots on goal, as he, Baez, Thilo Borgmann, and Stefan Lamanna each scored a goal. Gustavo Alvarado recorded two assists.

Despite conceiting a goal in the sixth minute of play, the Bakersfield Roadrunners managed a second-half equalizer from Simon Doherty (Jr., West Lothian, Scotland, FDU) and earned a 1-1 draw against VCU in the first match of the TLC Plumbing and Utility Classic Friday afternoon at the University of New Mexico.

Seattle University men’s soccer (3-3-0) had several opportunities to win as they scored first and equalized the score early in the second half, but two mid-second half goals by St. Mary’s (4-2-0) lifted them to a 4-2 win in Moraga, Calif. The teams scoreless through the first 20 minutes, Brady Ballew (Marysville, Wash.) struck first, putting the Redhawks ahead on an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute, dribbling and shooting from the side across the front of the goal into the net.
Utah Valley 2, Denver 1

The Utah Valley University men’s soccer team scored two second half goals to defeat nationally-ranked Denver 2-1 Friday night in front of a capacity crowd at Clyde Field. The Wolverines improve to 3-2-0 with the win and remain undefeated at home. No. 21 Denver falls to 4-3-0 with the setback.

Air Force men’s soccer rallied to a 1-1 draw at UC Davis Friday night at Aggie Soccer Field to remain unbeaten. A goal in the 44th minute by Ryan Ward gave the Falcons (3-0-3) the equalizer. UC Davis (2-0-4) scored a goal in the 26th minute. Ian Palmer scored with the assist by Justin Kitts. The goal snapped a 396 minute scoreless streak by Falcon goalkeeper Jake Schenk.
