DENVER - WAC Commissioner Jeff Hurd today announced the hiring of Chris Thompson as the Assistant Director of Media Relations. Thompson begins work at the WAC on Oct. 6.

“Chris brings a tremendous amount of experience at many different levels to the WAC,” Hurd said. “We are excited to have him on board and look forward to his contributions to the WAC and its membership.”

Thompson comes to the WAC after serving as Communications Director for the Cascade Collegiate Conference, a 10-school NAIA conference, for the past two years. He simultaneously served as the Sports Information Director for The Evergreen State College since 2010. He has also worked in media relations at Western Washington University, Central Washington University and the University of Puget Sound.

Thompson was the lead statistician for the 2013 NCAA Women's Volleyball Final Four and assisted at the 2014 NCAA Women's Basketball first and second round games hosted by the University of Washington. He has also been a freelance statistician for various organizations, including WAC member Seattle University, Washington and the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

“I'm honored to be joining the WAC,” Thompson said. “The illustrious history of the conference is amazing to think about but it's even more exciting to think about what the future holds for the WAC. I want to thank Jeff Hurd, Mollie Lehman and Hope Shuler, as well as everyone else in the conference office, for their hard work getting me on board and I look forward to starting soon.”

Thompson earned a bachelor's degree in public relations from Central Washington in 2005 and a master's degree in sports administration and leadership from Seattle U in 2008.

Thompson and his wife Lindsay have a one-year-old son, Oscar.
