Texas-Pan American 3, Grand Canyon 2 (26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-13)

EDINBURG, Texas – (UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team recorded its first WAC win of the season, 3-2 (26-24, 21-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-13) over the Grand Canyon University Antelopes on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
 
Three Broncs (3-12, 1-1 WAC) recorded career highs in digs, as Nausheen Merchant had 22, redshirt Macey Singleton had 21 and Alisha Watson had 19 to go with 14 kills and three aces for her first double-double of the season. Haley Durham led the Broncs with 16 kills and six blocks. Maria Kliefoth had 12 kills to go with a career-high-tying four aces. Sophomore Anjané Janda finished with 10 kills and eight digs.
 
Three Antelopes (11-5, 1-2 WAC) reached double-figures in kills, led by Shannon Dugan, who had 15 with 13 digs and three aces. Natalie Tardy recorded 12 kills while Megan Byrnes had 11.


New Mexico State 3, Bakersfield 2 (25-22, 18-25, 16-25, 26-24, 15-8)

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NM State Media Relations) It took five sets and a comeback from being down 2-1, but the New Mexico State volleyball team remained unbeaten in WAC play after defeating Bakersfield, 25-22, 18-25, 16-25, 26-24, 15-8, on Saturday afternoon inside the Pan American Center.

The Aggies won their fifth-straight match and 10th-straight WAC matchup dating back to last season to move to 2-0 in WAC play and 8-5 overall. The Roadrunners, who also came into the match at 1-0 in the WAC, fall to .500 in the conference and 5-10 overall.

Nathalie Castellanos marked her second double-double of the season after finishing with 10 kills and 19 assists while also hitting at a .389 percentage. Sasha-Lee Thomas led the squad with 11 kills, Taylor Livoti had 31 assists and Hannah Walker finished with a match-high 21 digs. Andrea Tauai added 13 digs and eight kills.

Danika Youngblood paced Bakersfield with her fifth double-double in the past six matches as she went for 19 kills and 14 digs. Luiza Martins earned her second straight and fourth double-double of the year with a season high 54 assists and 12 digs.
Kelsee Sawyer and Molly O'Hagan both had 12 kills.


Utah Valley 3, Seattle U 2 (26-24, 21-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-12)

OREM, Utah – (UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University picked up its third straight five-set victory on Saturday afternoon as it held on to defeat Seattle University in its 2014 WAC opener at the PE Building (26-24, 21-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-12).

Kalani Norris led the way for the Wolverines (6-9, 1-0 WAC) with a season-high 15 kills while Macky Treanor added 11. Kiahna Steiner chipped in nine kills while Lauren Bakker added eight and Madison Wolford had seven. Bakker also paced UVU with five blocks.

Iris Ivanis paced the Redhawks (4-10, 0-1 WAC) with a match-high 17 kills and a team-high 13 digs.
