SPOKANE, Wash. – (GCU Media Relations) Bouncing back from its first loss of the season, Grand Canyon picked up a pair of five-set wins in the Gonzaga Invitational Tournament in Spokane, Wash., Saturday.
GCU (5-1) defeated Montana State 3-2 (15-25, 25-21, 25-17, 13-25, 15-10) to start the day and Canisius 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-18, 15-6) to end it.
In the opener, senior Shannon Dugan had a career-high 25 kills and added 12 digs and a service ace in the victory. Frosh Natalie Tardy was the stat leader against Canisius with career-bests in kills (19) and digs (26), recording her second double-double of the day.

Missouri-Kansas City 3, Stephen F. Austin 1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21)
OMAHA, Neb. – (UMKC Media Relations) The Missouri-Kansas City volleyball team (4-2) closed out the Jackrabbit Invitational with a 3-1 win over Stephen F. Austin (3-3) on Saturday at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D.
As a team, the ‘Roos hit .265 with Melissa Hartsel (.526), Morgan Voorhes (.387), Emma Hagedorn (.316) and Jessica Hendin (.273) all hitting over .250.
Hendin had a team-high 18 kills and added 14 digs for a double-double, while Kaylyn Brandt finished with 33 assists and 12 digs to also record a double-double. Sydney Crimmins and Taryn Miller, meanwhile, finished with 16 and 15 digs, respectively, with Hartsel chipping in six blocks and 11 kills.

PROVO, Utah – (UVU Media Relations) Less than 24 hours after sweeping UMBC in the BYU Invitational opener, the Utah Valley University volleyball team battled against No. 5 Washington but ending up falling in straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-23) at the BYU Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday morning.
Nakisha Willden paced the Wolverines in the contest with 11 kills while Lauren Bakker and Cassie Wahlin added seven apiece. Sierra Starley too had a nice match for UVU as she put up a match-high 29 assists while also chipping in eight digs.

PROVO, Utah – (UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University dropped its second match of the day to a top-10 ranked opponent as it fell to No. 10 Brigham Young University in the BYU Invitational finale on Saturday night in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-16).
Despite the loss, Lauren Bakker led both teams with a match-high 13 kills. The UVU junior middle blocker was named to the BYU Invitational All-Tournament Team following the match as she posted 29 kills on the weekend. She also added nine blocks and a 3.22 kill per set average.
Senior libero McKenna Tait also had a solid match for the Wolverines as she recorded a match-high 20 digs while freshman setter Sierra Starley chipped in 30 assists and eight digs.

California 3, at New Mexico State 2 (25-16, 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-12)
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NM State Media Relations) The New Mexico State volleyball team fought and scrapped its way to a five-set match with the Cal Bears on Saturday afternoon during the final match of the NM State Tournament, eventually falling short of a victory, 25-16, 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-12.
Junior transfer Andrea Tauai had her first double-double as an Aggie after finishing with 16 kills, the team’s most in a match all season, and 14 digs. Also in double-figure kills were junior Bradley Nash with 13, freshman Kassandra Tohm with 12 and junior Gwen Murphy with 11 total kills.
Junior outside hitter Nathalie Castellanos also notched a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs. Setter Taylor Livoti once again led NM State in assists, she finished with 35, and libero Hannah Walker led the team with a match-high 19 digs.

No. 12 Nebraska 3, Bakersfield 1 (25-16, 25-8, 22-25, 25-19)
Dayton 3, Bakersfield 1 (30-28, 14-25, 25-22, 25-21)
DAYTON, Ohio – (CSUB Media Relations) Bakersfield lost two matches on the final day of the Flyer-Raider Invitational to No. 12 Nebraska and host Dayton.
Against the Huskers, Molly O'Hagan led Bakersfield with 11 kills. Luiza Martins recorded 35 assists while Mariah Alvidrez had 26 digs.
Against Dayton, O’Hagan reset her career high with 21 kills. The 5-11 middle blocker finished the night with an .645 average (21-1-31), a new Division I school record for hitting percentage in a four-set match. Kelsee Sawyer charted 18 kills while Danika Youngblood recorded a career high 13 kills. Martins posted 51 assists.

Northern Arizona 3, at Texas-Pan American 0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-17)
EDINBURG, Texas – (UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team fell to the Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks 3-0 to close out the UTPA Tournament on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Maria Kliefoth earned All-Tournament Team honors after leading the Broncs with 18 blocks (1.29 per set) while also recording 28 kills (2.00 per set) on a team-best .306 hitting. She had 10 kills in Thursday's opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, tied for the fourth most in a single match in program history.
Kliefoth had four kills and four blocks against the Lumberjacks (6-0). Junior Haley Durham led the Broncs with nine kills and four blocks. Freshman Mary Kate Clark had 17 assists. Senior Nausheen Merchant finished with 12 digs.

Oregon State 3, Seattle U (25-20, 25-22, 26-24)
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Seattle University volleyball team proved that it could play with a major conference opponent, but Oregon State was able to hold off the Redhawks for a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-22, 26-24) Saturday night in the sixth and final match of the Redhawk Invitational, giving the Beavers the tournament title.
Iris Ivanis led the Redhawks with eight kills, plus she posted a .316 hitting percentage and collected nine digs. Jelena Vujcin came on in the third set and contributed six kills and two service aces, while Shelby Babcock led the team in the back with 11 digs.

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Cougars closed out the Windy City Invitational Saturday. with a pair of losses to DePaul (25-17, 25-15, 25-22) and Syracuse (25-16, 25-16, 25-12).
Against DePaul, Elli Woinowsky led Chicago State with 10 kills, while Sarah Metcalfe dished out 28 assists.
In the loss to Syracuse, Woinowsky paced the Cougars with eight kills, while Julia Menhart had a match-high 17 digs.
