WAC Volleyball Player of the Week Announced

DENVER – Missouri-Kansas City junior outside hitter Jessica Hendin has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 1-7. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.

The Overland Park, Kan., native averaged 3.82 kills, 3.82 digs and 0.55 service aces per set over three matches last week en route to all-tournament team honors at the Jackrabbit Invitational, her second all-tournament selection in as many weeks. Hendin opened the week with a double-double of 15 kills and 17 digs in a four-set loss to Valparaiso. She then tied her career-high with three aces against South Dakota State and was just shy of a double-double, finishing with nine kills and 11 digs. Hendin closed out the week with a season-high 18 kills to go along with 14 digs in a win against Stephen F. Austin for her third double-double of the season.

Other nominees included: Grand Canyon’s Shannon Dugan led the Antelopes to a 2-1 record at the Gonzaga Invitational and was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 4.00 kills, 2.50 digs and 4.25 points per set over three matches ... Bradley Nash of New Mexico State averaged 2.83 kills and 1.25 digs as the Aggies went 2-1 on the week ... Seattle U’s Martina Samadan earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the Redhawk Invitational after averaging 3.95 points, 2.30 kills on .347 hitting, 2.10 blocks and 0.50 service aces per set over three matches ... Maria Kliefoth of Texas-Pan American earned all-tournament honors at the UTPA Tournament after averaging 2.00 kills, 1.29 blocks and 0.79 digs per set ... Utah Valley’s Lauren Bakker earned all-tournament team honors at the BYU Invitational after averaging 3.33 digs, 0.83 blocks and 3.92 points per set.
