DENVER — North Dakota’s Steph Frey and Northern Colorado’s Savana Meadows have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for January 5-11.
Frey, a sophomore from Bemidji, Minn. (Bemidji HS) led North Dakota to a win against Grand Canyon on the road this weekend. With UND holding onto a slim lead Friday heading into the final two events, Steph Frey's victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.71) practically sealed the team victory for North Dakota (120.5-119.5). She also finished second in the 200 free (1:55.51). Saturday, she again won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.33 time, nearly two seconds better than the runner up. She also etched a win in the 200 free relay (1:38.15) and a second in the 200 medley relay (1:47.48).
Meadows, a sophomore from Burnet, Texas (Burnet HS) swept the diving boards this weekend against Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona. In the dual against Grand Canyon, Meadows won both the 3-meter with her weekend high score of 299.3 and the 1-meter (251.8). She matched her success the second day dominating the 3-meter (270.07) and 1-meter (285.37) against Northern Arizona.
