DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Tope Williams and Kevina Godfrey have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for January 12-18.

Williams, a freshman from Chandler, Ariz. (Chandler HS), competed very well for her first time in a Grand Canyon uniform.  Williams clocked the second-fastest time (7.56 seconds) in GCU school history in the 60-meter dash.  Her time, which is the fastest recorded time in the WAC this season in the 60-meter dash, gave her a second-place finish in the event.  She also raced to a WAC season-best time of 25.41 seconds in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh in the event.

Godfrey, a sophomore from Atlanta, Ga. (Mountain Pointe HS), leaped to a conference-best distance of 5.84 meters in the long jump Friday in Flagstaff, giving a second in the event.  Her distance ranks 38th in the nation so far this season.  Godfrey also finished seventh in the 60-meter dash.
