DENVER – Utah Valley’s Michael McPherson and teammate Scott Moake have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for January 19-25.
McPherson, a senior from Parker, Colo. (Chaparral HS), captured the Air Force Invitational victory in the heptathlon this weekend. He scored 5,405 points in the event ranking him at No. 8 nationally. McPherson also competed in the long jump with a best of 7.20 meters which ranks him first in the event in the WAC so far this season.
Moake, a junior from Orem, Utah (Mountain View HS), had an impressive eighth-place finish in the men’s high jump at the Air Force Invitational. Moake cleared 2.05 meters on Saturday, good enough for a seat in the finals and a chance to attempt for a personal record. While Moake holds the top mark in the high jump in the conference, this weekend’s score would have ranked him third. He finished in eighth-place behind three other athletes who are ranked in the top-33 nationally in the event.
Other Track Nominees: Lance Parker, Grand Canyon.
Other Field Nominees: Kory Jackson, Chicago State.
