DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Tope Williams and Vanessa Levy have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for January 19-25.
Williams, a freshman from Chandler, Ariz. (Chandler HS), shined Saturday at the Lobo Collegiate Open which hosted 20 track and field teams. In a large field of athletes, Williams finished third in the 60-meter dash with her WAC-best time of 7.54 seconds. Williams also posted a conference-best time in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.73 seconds, smashing her previous WAC-fastest time of 25.41 seconds.
Levy, a senior from Clarendon, Jamaica (Johnson County CC), had an outstanding season debut at the Lobo Collegiate Open this weekend. In her first outing, Levy notched a first-place finish in the weight throw with her toss of 17.43 meters. Levy’s distance is a conference-best and is the first throw in the WAC to break 17 meters this season in the weight throw. The senior also picked up an eighth-place in the shot put with her distance of 13.00 meters.
