DENVER — UNLV’s Henrique Machado and Bakersfield’s Tyler Greenwald have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for January 19-25.

Machado, a junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil (Colegio Costa Zovagli) helped UNLV to a 161-137 win over conference rival Air Force on Saturday.  He swept both of the backstorke events, winning the 100 in 48.87 seconds and the 200 in a time of 1:50.46.  Machado also led off the first place 400 medley relay by swimming the back leg for the UNLV squad that posted a time of 1:30.49 and swam on the UNLV 'B' relay team that took third in the 400 free relay.

Greenwald, a sophomore from Henderson, Nev. (Coronado HS) posted a score of 333.45 on the 3-meter board which smashed his previous best (291.15), sailed by the Bakersfield record (Troy Neklason, 2012 – 328.25), and is the second highest score in the Western Athletic Conference this season.  Greenwald also finisged first on the 1-meter board with a score of 293.70 which moves him into fourth all-time for CSUB in the event.  The 1-meter score breezed by his previous best (270.15) and is the fourth-best mark in the WAC this year.

Other swimmers nominated: Mihael Vukic, Bakersfield; Kyle White, Wyoming; Martin Pozniak, North Dakota.

Other divers nominated: Clayton Metcalf, North Dakota.
