KENT, Ohio – (UTPA Media Relations) Sophomore Janari Joesaar hit a career-high 10 baskets, including a career-high six three-pointers, but the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men’s basketball team closed out a stretch of 12-of-13 away from home with a 74-54 loss to the Kent State University Golden Flashes on Friday at Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
Jonesaar led the Broncs (5-9) with 27 points while going 10-for-14 from the field, including 6-for-9 from behind the arc. He also had nine rebounds (four offensive) and a career-high three steals.
Joesaar hit a three and senior Shaquille Boga made a jumper as the Broncs jumped out to a 5-4 lead over the first two and a half minutes. The Golden Flashes, however, hit six of their next eight shots to fuel a 14-2 run and go up 18-7.
Joesaar scored the Broncs’ next 16 points, the first 11 of which helped the Broncs pull within five (23-18), but the Golden Flashes used a 17-5 run over the next 8:17 to go up 40-23.
The Broncs were as close as 52-38 after a layup by freshman Isaiah Hobbs with 12:29 remaining, but a 20-7 Kent State run pushed the game out of reach.
