New Mexico State 70, UC Irvine 67
Recap | Stats

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NM State Media Relations) Ian Baker buried a three-pointer from the left elbow with five seconds to play to lead New Mexico State to a 70-67 victory over UC Irvine Saturday night at the Pan American Center.

It was the third straight game that the Aggies (7-9) got Baker’s last-second heroics, as he drained threes to beat Texas Southern on Tuesday night and send the game with No. 24 Colorado State into overtime last Saturday.

With the game knotted at 67-all with 18.7 to play, the sophomore from Washington, D.C., took the ball inside with a pass to Pascal Siakam, who quickly drew a tough double-team. But it allowed Baker to be open at the elbow and he drained the 21-footer.

Baker finished with 10 points and two steals for the game. Remi Barry collected a career-high 23 points against the Anteaters, with 19 of them coming in the first half.  Siakam added 14 points with a game-high eight rebounds.

NM State held UC Irvine to just four points in the last five minutes. The Aggies also controlled the glass, dominating UCI 37-24 and only allowing four offensive rebounds to the Anteaters. UCI only collected five points off of those rebounds.
