DENVER - Missouri-Kansas City's Antoine Rozner and Seattle U's Alexus Song have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Golfers of the Month, respectively, for September.
Rozner, a senior from Paris, France (Lycee Jean de la Fontaine), won his third career individual title at the Mark Simpson Invitational in Boulder, Colo., carding a two-under 208 to finish first among 75 golfers. That came just a few weeks after he tied for fifth at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite, posting a four-under 212. For the month, he averaged 70 strokes per round, two and a half strokes better than any other golfer in the WAC.
Song, a junior from Auburn, Wash. (Thomas Jefferson HS), was the Redhawks' top finisher at both the WSU Cougar Cup and Rose City Collegiate. As the WSU Cougar Cup, she shot a seven-over 223 to finish tied for 17th among 74 golfers. In Portland, she was just three-over, shooting a 219 to tie for 11th among 84 participants at the Rose City Collegiate. Her score of 69 in the final round of the WSU Cougar Cup is the second-lowest among WAC golfers this season and her 73.67 stroke average is also second among WAC golfers
Other men's nominees: Seattle U's Joe Harvie tied for fourth at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate, leading the Redhawks to a second-place finish … UT Rio Grande Valley's Andres Gonzalez started his collegiate career with nine straight rounds of 76 or lower, including a hole-in-one in his first even collegiate round … Utah Valley's Blair Bursey finished 14th among 88 golfers at the Ram Masters Invite and 35th at the Itanio Quality Homes Collegiate to provide the Wolverines with consistent leadership.
Other women's nominees: Missouri-Kansas City's Cynthia Diaz had an outstanding collegiate debut, shooting a four-over 220 at the Johnie Imes Invitational to tie for 29th among 95 of the top golfers in the country … Utah Valley's Kimberly Nyhus averaged 77.17 strokes per round for the Wolverines and posted the lowest round of the year, shooting a 68 in the first round of the Hobble Creek Classic.
