WAC Women's Swimmer & Diver of the Week Announced

Grand Canyon's Iryna Glavnyk and CSU Bakersfield's Carlee Burks have been named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Oct. 5-11.

Glavnyk, a junior from Kiev, Ukraine took home three individual titles at Bakersfield over the weekend. This marks the second straight meet Glavnyk has found success at, taking home three individual titles and the title in the 200-medley relay.

Burks, a junior from Bakersfield, Calif. picked up a pair of wins on both the 1- and 3-meter boards. The Centennial High School graduate scored 235.65 points on the 1-meter to defeat GCU's Mennattalah Elmidany by less than three points. Later in the meet, Burks trounced all competitors, scoring 250.05 points on the 3-meter and winning by a 40-point margin

Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Paola Hernandez upset her teammate, Kelsey Lange, who is the defending WAC Champion in the 100 free, with a first-place time of 52.26. The performance was good enough to defeat her closest competitor by 0.95 seconds and puts her less than 1.5 seconds outside of the all-time CSUB Top 5 in the event. The junior from Lompoc, Calif. also swam well in the 200 IM and 50 free, earning second-place finishes in both events. Northern Colorado's Valeria Mihhailova helped her team finish fourth overall for 84 points.

Other diver nominees: Grand Canyon's Mennattalah Elmidany led the Lopes in the one-meter diving competition, placing second with a score of 231.83. She also posted a fourth place finish in the three-meter diving competition (200.48).
