DENVER - North Dakota's Jacob Wielinski and CSU Bakersfield's Tyler Greenwald have been named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Oct. 12-18. This is Wielinski's second honor this season.

Wielinski, a freshman from Moundsview, Minn. (Irondale HS) continued his impressive start to his collegiate career with three individual wins. He easily outdistanced the competition with a 9:25.87 time in the 1,000 free, a 4:36.84 showing in the 500 free and a winning 1:57.05 time in the 200 IM.

Greenwald, a junior from Henderson, Nev., earned a win in the Malibu Invitational's only diving event of the weekend. In an uncommon format, Greenwald posted a score of 296.15 in a six-dive competition featuring dives on both the 1- and 3-meter boards.

Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Bryce Timonera was narrowly edged for first place by teammate Mihael Vukic in the 50 fly but went on to win the 100 fly by lowering his personal best time in the event by almost half of a second (50.71). Timonera is now exactly one second outside of the CSUB Top 5 all-time list in the event. He earned top five finishes in all four events he competed in on Saturday. Tanner Schelling out of Seattle U kicked off the 2015-16 season with victories over Simon Fraser in both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. First, he touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.38 seconds despite not getting off to a great start. He then cruised to a victory in the 100 breaststroke by over two seconds with a mark of 57.22 seconds. He also posted the fastest 100 breaststroke split during the meet-opening 400 medley relay, completing his leg in 57.40 seconds, over a second quicker than the 100 breast leg from Simon Fraser's “A” relay.
