DENVER - Seattle U senior middle blocker Martina Samadan has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 19-25. This is her third WAC Player of the Week honor of the season and the fourth of her career.

The Split, Croatia, native led the Redhawks to a 2-0 record last week, averaging 3.00 kills on .418 hitting, 2.00 blocks and 0.56 service aces per set. Last Thursday against Chicago State, Samadan helped the Redhawks overcome a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Cougars, 3-2. She posted a double-double of 10 kills and her Seattle U career-high 12 blocks, tied for the second-highest single-match total in Seattle U history. In the final three sets, Samadan was 7-for-12 in attack attempts without an error (.583), plus she posted eight blocks. On Saturday against UMKC, she led the Redhawks with 17 kills on .556 hitting, six blocks and four service aces. After the intermission, she once again did not commit an attack error, going 13-for-17 in attack attempts for a .765 hitting percentage. It was the sixth time this season Samadan has posted a hitting percentage above .500 as she is back in the lead in the WAC in hitting percentage, plus she is second in the conference in blocks per set and fifth in kills per set.

Other nominees included: Carol Grasso of CSU Bakersfield posted a double-double of 13 kills and 14 digs in a sweep of Grand Canyon ... Chicago State's Elli Woinowsky averaged 2.88 kills, 1.75 digs and 0.38 service aces per set last week ... Madison Mosier of Missouri-Kansas City averaged 3.50 kills on .362 hitting and 0.50 blocks per set ... NM State's Nathalie Castellanos averaged 4.66 kills on .586 hitting, 0.50 digs and 0.50 blocks per set as the Aggies went 2-0 on the week ... Bojana Mitrovic of UT Rio Grande Valley averaged 4.12 kills, 1.62 digs, 0.88 blocks and 0.62 service aces per set on the week ... Utah Valley's Lauren Bakker averaged 2.67 kills, 1.50 blocks and 1.17 digs per set in a pair of wins last week.
