DENVER - CSU Bakersfield junior outside hitter Carol Grasso has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 26-Nov. 1. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.
The São Paulo, Brazil, native led the Roadrunners to a 2-0 record last week to move into second place in the WAC standings, averaging 4.44 points, 3.78 kills, 3.44 digs, 0.56 assists and 0.56 service aces per set. After dropping the first set to Seattle U last Thursday, Grasso helped the Runners take the next three sets to win the match, posting her fifth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs to go along with three assists and two service aces. On Saturday against Utah Valley, she led CSUB with career highs of 23 kills, 21 digs, three service aces and 27 points as the Runners came from behind to defeat the Wolverines in five sets. Grasso, who has now posted double-doubles in four straight matches, far surpassed her season averages last week as she entered the week averaging 2.75 points, 2.43 kills, 2.81 digs, 0.40 assists and 0.22 service aces per set.

NM State's Gwen Murphy averaged 3.57 kills on .469 hitting, 1.29 digs and 0.86 blocks per set as the Aggies went 2-0 on the week ... Martina Samadan of Seattle U averaged 4.71 kills on .564 hitting and 1.14 blocks per set ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Bojana Mitrovic averaged 4.57 kills, 1.86 digs and 0.71 blocks per set on the week ... Abby Jensen of Utah Valley averaged 4.08 kills on. 379 hitting and 2.00 digs per set last week.
