NM STATE'S SIAKAM NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
NM State sophomore forward Pascal Siakam has been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 16-22. This is his second WAC Player of the Week honor of the season and the fourth of his career.
The Doula, Cameroon, native averaged 24.5 points on 61.8 percent shooting, 13.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Aggies went 2-0 on the week. Siakam collected his ninth career double-double with a career-high 30 points to go with 11 rebounds and a career-high four assists in the Aggies' 76-63 win over Tennessee Tech last Wednesday. He followed it up with his third double-double of the year and the 10th of his career with 19 points and a season-best 16 rebounds in NM State's 85-46 win over Mississippi Valley State last Saturday. In NCAA stats through Nov. 21 games, Siakam leads the nation in field goals made (39) and total points (100), ranks seventh in total rebounds (46), ninth in scoring average (25.0) and 23rd in rebounding average (11.5).
Other nominees included: Kevin Mays of CSU Bakersfield averaged 18.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as the Roadrunners went 2-0 last week ... Chicago State's Trayvon Palmer averaged 13.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.67 blocks and 1.33 assists as the Cougars went 2-1 on the week ... Joshua Braun of Grand Canyon averaged 20.0 points on 76.9 percent shooting, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals as the Lopes went 2-0 on the week ... Missouri-Kansas City's Martez Harrison averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals as the ‘Roos went 1-1 on the week ... Brendan Westendorf of Seattle U finished with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists in a loss to Eastern Washington ... UT Rio Grande Valley's Antonio Green averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists as the Vaqueros went 1-2 last week ... Konner Frey of Utah Valley averaged 15.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists as the Wolverines went 1-1 on the week.
WAC STAT LEADERS
Chicago State leads the WAC in scoring (96.8), scoring margin (22.0), rebounding (46.0), blocks (4.25), steals (16.0), turnover margin (9.75) and offensive rebounds (17.75). CSU Bakersfield is tops in scoring defense (60.7), free throw percentage (75.4), field goal percentage defense (35.9), assists (19.33) and assist-turnover ratio (1.81). rand Canyon leads the WAC in three-point field goal percentage defense (26.2) and rebounding defense (30.7), while Missouri-Kansas City is tops in three-point field goal percentage (39.2) and three-pointers per game (9.5). NM State leads the WAC in field goal percentage (50.2) and rebounding margin (13.7), while Utah Valley is tops in defensive rebounds (33.25).
Individually, NM State's Pascal Siakam leads the WAC in scoring (25.0) and blocked shots (1.75), while Chicago State's Trayvon Palmer is tops in rebounding (12.0) and offensive rebounds (5.5). Utah Valley's Darrious Hamilton and Seattle U's William Powell lead the league in field goal percentage (69.2), while Chicago State's Kieran Woods is tops in steals (4.0). Missouri-Kansas City's Martez Harrison leads the WAC in assists (6.75), while teammate LaVell Boyd is tops in three-point field goal percentage (61.5). CSU Bakersfield's Damiyne Durham leads the league in three-pointers per game (4.67), while teammate Brent Wrapp is tops in assist-turnover ratio (16.0). Grand Canyon's Grandy Glaze leads the WAC in defensive rebounds (8.67), while Seattle U's Jack Crook is tops in minutes per game (34.33). Four players have perfect free throw percentages.
UTRGV'S HINES APPROACHES 1,000 CAREER POINTS
UT Rio Grande Valley senior Shaquille Hines is approaching 1,000 career points. He currently has 968 and looks to become the 24th player in program history to score 1,000. Hines, who ranks sixth all-time at UTRGV with 57 career blocks, is also 20 rebounds shy of 500 for his career.
UTAH VALLEY SCORES 100 POINTS FOR FIFTH TIME EVER
Utah Valley defeated Antelope Valley 104-60 on Nov. 20 for the third-highest single game point total in program history. It was the fifth time UVU has hit the century mark in a single game as six Wolverines posted career marks.
HENSON INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME
Legendary NM State head coach Lou Henson was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame on Nov. 20 at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City, Mo. Henson led the Aggies to the Final Four in 1970 and is one of just 12 coaches to take two different schools to the Final Four. Henson, a 1955 graduate of NM State, coached 16 years in two stints at his alma mater, posting a 289-152 record. Henson had a 41-year career as a collegiate head coach, all at the NCAA Division I level, posting a record of 779-412 (.654).
