DENVER - Grand Canyon's Iryna Glavnyk and Northern Arizona's Chelsea Jackson have been named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Nov. 16-Nov. 22.
Glavnyk, a junior from Kiev, Ukraine (All-Republic Higher Specialized School in Physical Education) 100 Back time had a CollegeSwimmimg.com performance score of 798.0. It is an NCAA B Cut and it is the 44th fastest time in DI and the fastest in the WAC this season. The junior's 200 Back time had a CollegeSwimmimg.com performance score of 797.0. It is an NCAA B Cut and it is the 36th fastest time in DI and the fastest in the WAC this season. Glavnyk's 200 Back time had a CollegeSwimmimg.com performance score of 783.0. It is an NCAA B Cut and it is the 64th fastest time in DI and the fastest in the WAC this season. She also swam the backstroke leg on the A 200 Medley Relay, which also placed 1st, and the relay time is the fastest in the WAC this season. Glavnyk also swam on the 200 Free, 400 Free, and 400 Medley Relays - all of which have the fastest times in the WAC this season.
Jackson, a senior from Flagstaff, Ariz. (Northland Prep) placed in the top seven on all three boards at the Wildcat Diving Invitational this weekend, featuring competition from the host University of Arizona, San Diego State and WAC opponents Northern Colorado, Idaho and New Mexico State among others. She was the only diver from the WAC to do so. Her highlight came on Saturday, finishing runner-up in the 1-meter competition with a score of 279.65, one day after placing seventh on 3-meter with a score of 266.75. To conclude the meet, she recorded a score of 210.35 to finish fourth overall in her first platform competition of the season.
Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Dylana Milobar excelled in the breaststroke events, placing 13th in the finals of the 200 breast with the second-best time in the WAC this season (2:20.42). The native of British Columbia went on to win the 100 breast with a PR in the finals, one minute, 2.21 seconds, which was the top time in the WAC this year by almost two seconds and was also an NCAA B cut. She also competed well in 200 IM and helped two different ‘Runner relay teams (200 and 400 medley) to two ninth-place finishes. NM State's Dorottya Lennert broke her own school record in the 200 fly (1:59.28) and qualified for NCAA B cuts in the 100 and 200 fly at the Phill Hansel Invitational. Northern Colorado's Laura Ramirez picked up points for the Bears in the relay, 100 fly placing 19th place with a time of 56.95/56.92 and 200 fly placing 9th place with a time of 2:05.48/2:03.85. Idaho's Cara Jernigan was a member of the 400 medley relay team who placed seventh with a time of 3:46.89 and the 200 medley relay team who placed ninth with a time of 1:44.97. Also placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.03 and third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:14.66, a school record.
Other diver nominees: Northern Colorado's Taylor Walsh competed in all three events at the Invite, finishing first in the consolation round on the 3M and then 9th overall on platform.
