ROZNER NAMED MEN'S GOLFER OF THE MONTH
Missouri-Kansas City's Antoine Rozner, a senior from Paris, France (Lycee Jean de la Fontaine), continued his outstanding fall into October, playing one international tournament and one collegiate tournament for the Roos. In his lone collegiate tournament of the month, he broke a pair UMKC school records at the Price's “Give ‘Em 5†Invitational in El Paso, Texas. Rozner's first round of 63 was a UMKC best and his tournament score of 197 was also the best even by the Roos' golfer. On the international scene, he represented France at The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. Teaming with Gregoire Schoeb, he led France to a second-place finish, four strokes behind the United States.
Other men's nominees: Seattle U's Joe Harvie led the Redhawks in their final two fall tournaments, averaging 71.3 strokes per round on the month … UT Rio Grande Valley's Andres Gonzalez averaged 73.8 strokes per round in a pair of tournaments to lead the Vaqueros … Utah Valley's Blair Bursey recorded the second top-10 finish of his career at the OGIO Utah Invitational.
MACIAS NAMED WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE MONTH
NM State's Viviana Macias, a senior from Guadalajara, Mexico (Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Jalisco), averaged 70.3 strokes per round in a pair of tournaments. She defended NM State's home course, winning the Aggie Invitational with a six-under 210. At the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Macias shot a four-under 212 to take second place. The senior leads all WAC golfers this season with a 72.09 stroke average this fall.
Other women's nominees: Chicago State's Fernanda Valdes Solis led the Cougars in their final fall tournament, winning a playoff to win the Trinity Troll Classic with an even-par 71 … Missouri-Kansas City's Cynthia Diaz set a new school record for low tournament score, shooting a 219 at the Chip-N-Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. … Seattle U's Alexus Song extended her streak of top-20 finishes to eight straight … Utah Valley's Kalea Heu led the Wolverines with a 77.5 scoring average on the month.
AMONG THE BEST
UMKC's Antoine Rozner isn't new to the amateur golf scene but his light has become much brighter this fall as the Frenchman is among the top amateur golfers in the world. He is ranked sixth in the latest Golfstat Cup, 18th in the NCAA Individual Rankings, 28th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and 43rd in the Golfweek Rankings.
FRESHMAN PHENOM
UT Rio Grande Valley freshman Andres Gonzalez has quickly made a name for himself around the WAC. He has started his collegiate career with 15 rounds of 76 or lower. In his first round, he recorded a hole-in-one.
SOUTH OF THE BORDER
The Seattle U men headed south to start the month of October, traveling to San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico for the Cabo Del Sol Intercollegiate. The Redhawks finished eighth out of 10 but it is sure to be an experience the golfers won't soon forget.
COMING UP ACES
Utah Valley senior Kalea Heu dropped home the Wolverine's first hole-in-one in program history at the WSU Cougar Cup on the 138-yard par-3 16th hole at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
SWINGING JOEY
Missouri-Kansas City freshman Cynthia Diaz has quickly established herself as the top Kangaroo women's golfer in her first fall. The Bucaramanga, Columbia native set a new school record for low tournament score, carding a 219 at the Chip-N-Club Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
