BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - No. 1 Seattle U's defensive dominance continued as the Redhawks shutout No. 5 CSU Bakersfield 2-0 to advance to the WAC Women's Soccer Tournament championship match. This is SU's fourth-straight shutout and 13th on the season.
Senior defender Kiana Kraft ranged forward late in the first half, scoring off an assist from WAC Offensive Player of the Year Julia Moravec, to put SU up 1-0. The Redhawks extended the lead in the 84th minute after Summer Mason flew down the wing on a counter attack an found Moravec, who calmly one-touch finished from the spot. The Redhawks were statistically dominant, out-shooting the 'Runners 15 shots to two in the match, including eight shots to none in the first half. CSUB didn't test SU keeper Brianna Smallidge until the 51st minute on an effort from Whitney Strong.
The Redhawks will face No. 2 Utah Valley in the championship match at 1 p.m. PT on Sunday for a chance to win a third-straight WAC title and automatic NCAA Tournament berth. SU defeated UVU 1-0 at in the final match of the season to win the WAC regular season title, while the two tied 1-1 in Orem on Sept. 26.
