DENVER - Utah Valley's Trac Norris and Daven Russell have been named Western Athletic Conference Track and Field Athletes of the week, respectively, for Nov. 30-Dec. 6.

Norris, a senior from Panguitch, Utah (Panguitch HS) broke the school record by three seconds in his first time running the event indoors at the Winter Wildcat Open at Weber State. Norris ran the 3,000m in a time of 8:21.90 (altitude adjusted).

Russell, a sophomore from Kanab, Utah (Kanab HS) took second place in the shot put throwing 15.95m, just six centimeters off of his personal record at the Winter Wildcat Open hosted by Weber State.

Other track nominees: Chicago State's Tyler Whittler broke the school record in the 60-meter dash at the SIU Saluki Fast Start meet as he crossed the finish line with a time of 6.94 in the finals to earn a second-place finish. He eclipsed the previous record set three years ago by three-tenths of a second. Missouri-Kansas City's Devin Burton started the indoor season off by placing third in the 60-meter hurdles, setting a personal-record with a time of 8.45 seconds. The time was nine-hundredths of a second faster than his previous-best mark in which he set at the 2015 WAC Indoor Championships.

Other field nominees: Chicago State's Kory Jackson continued where he left off from last season as he recorded a mark of 22'5.75” (6.85 meters) in CSU's season opener at the SIU Saluki Fast Start. His jump earned him a second-place overall finish while finishing first among the collegiate men's field. In the weight throw, Missouri-Kansas City's Jacob Hockman was just 70 centimeters off his personal best throw, good enough to place sixth in a very competitive field at the Bob Timmons Challenge.
