DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Moya McKenzie and Missouri-Kansas City’s Briana Carter have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for February 2-8.

McKenzie, a senior from Manchester, Jamaica (Bellefield HS), raced to a first-place finish in both the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash Friday at the Air Force Quadrangular.  The senior clocked a time of 24.80 seconds in the 200 and 55.69 seconds in the 400 to lead the Grand Canyon women to head-to-head dual wins over Wyoming, Utah Valley and Air Force.

Carter, a senior from Warrensburg, Mo. (Warrensburg HS), was very competitive in the triple jump this weekend at the Air Force Quadrangular.  Earning second-place, Carter jumped 12.01 meters which broke her previous 2012 school record by nearly a foot.  This is now the third-best mark in UMKC school history.  Furthermore, she now ranks first in the WAC for the women’s triple jump.
