DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Aaron Thurber and teammate Timothy Ryan have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for February 9-15.
Thurber, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz. (Glendale CC), was the top collegiate finisher in the 60-meter dash, racing to a conference-fastest time of 6.75 seconds in the sprint. The junior also took third in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 21.73 seconds, which ranks fourth in the WAC this season.
Ryan, a freshman from Granbury, Texas (Trinity College School), had a stellar weekend in Flagstaff, winning both the high jump and pole vault. His mark of 2.05 meters in the high jump is a new school record and his height of 4.60 meters in the pole vault is the second-best vault of the season in the conference.
