DENVER – Utah Valley’s Taylor Gomez and Missouri-Kansas City’s Briana Carter have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for February 16-22.
Gomez, a senior from Riverton, Utah (Riverton HS), led the charge in the 800 meter run Saturday at the Wildcat Indoor Open in the Swenson Gym at Weber State in Ogden, Utah. Gomez finished in third place overall with a time of 2:17.04.
Carter, a senior from Warrensburg, Mo. (Warrensburg HS), continued to set personal and school records after earning a fourth place finish in the women’s 400 meter dash clocking in at 56.86 seconds. Over in the sandpit, Carter placed third with her leap of 12.09 meters in the women’s triple jump. This mark has her sitting first in the WAC and is also fourth all time in school history.
