WAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER – Utah Valley’s Jason Lynch and Seattle U’s Shaddye Melu have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for January 26 – February 1.

Lynch, a junior from Sandy, Utah (Hillcrest HS), set the new Utah Valley University men’s indoor track and field 5000 meter record on Friday at the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho.  Lynch set a record time of 14:45.16 and with a TFRRS altitude adjusted time of 14:24.84.  His time leads the WAC performance list by almost 30 seconds.

Melu, a junior from Auburn, Wash. (Auburn Mountainview HS), finished in a tie for fourth place in the high jump at the UW Invitational this past weekend, clearing 2.05 meters (6’ 8.75”).  He then went on to finish in second place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.28 seconds, just 3/100ths of a second off the school record he set last year.  He is currently second on the WAC performance lists in both the high jump and the 400 meter dash.
