DENVER — Grand Canyon’s Iryna Glavnyk and Northern Colorado’s Savanna Meadows have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for January 26 – February 1.
Glavnyk, a sophomore from Kiev, Ukraine (All-Republic Higher Specialized School in Physical Education), helped the Antelope women to a close dual against Brigham Young, losing by only a single point. Being a tough meet, especially at altitude, Glavnyk had strong a showing on Saturday recording a trio of top finishes. Glavnyk outswam BYU in the 100 (56.27) and 200 yard backstroke (2:03.45) as well as the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.64. The sophomore also swam on the winning 200 medley relay to help her team to a very close fight against the Cougars.
Meadows, a sophomore from Burnet, Texas (Burnet HS), would pull another record off of the wall this weekend at the Air Force Diving Invitational where she competed very well against schools from all over the Mountain region. Scoring a 317.25 in the finals of the 3-meter competition gave her not only a second place finish but both a school record and top conference score of the season. Meadows previous school record was 303.90. She also performed on the platform with a score of 210.15 which is only 0.38 off of her current school record and second-place WAC score.
