DENVER – Missouri-Kansas City’s Mike Psarros and New Mexico State’s Ashvarya Shrivastava have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the January 26 – February 1.
Psarros, a sophomore from Athens, Greece, split a pair of matches in Utah this weekend, falling to Brigham Young opponent David Ball and making a comeback against Jack Yin to defeat Weber State. He won the clinching match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 against Yin on Saturday helping the Roos to a 4-3 victory over Weber State. Psarros and doubles partner Airam Castellano defeated Weber State’s pair of Cooper and Guswami 6-3.
Shrivastava, a junior from Pune, India (Institute of Open Schooling), gave the Aggies their first singles’ win of the spring season by defeating Texas State senior Monica Pieratt, 6-1, 6-3. She is New Mexio State’s No. 1 individual and 122nd nationally-ranked Shrivastava in women’s singles. Shrivistava and doubles partner Rimpledeep Kaur, freshman, paired-up to beat the Bobcat pairing of Ana Laura Gutierrez and Pippa Carr, 6-4.
