KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC volleyball Head Coach Christi Posey was recently named a finalist for the Burns and McDonnell Coach of the Year by the Kansas City Sports Commission after leading the 'Roos to their best season in school history.

"I am humbled and honored to be in such distinguished company and to have been considered by great organization in the Kansas City Sports Commission," Posey said. "There is always an outstanding TEAM that provides these opportunities and I feel extremely fortunate for each player and the collective family that makes up UMKC Volleyball."

This past season, Posey guided the Kangaroos to their first ever conference championship as the ‘Roos finished 12-2 in the WAC, while leading UMKC to a pair of tournament titles, school records for wins (24), consecutive wins (17) and conference wins (12) and its first win over Missouri since 1994.

"I’m ecstatic to see Christi recognized as a Coach of the Year finalist," UMKC Director of Athletics Carla Wilson said. "As an athletic director, she is the kind of person and coach you wish you could clone. When I think about what she instills in our student-athletes – hard work, commitment, team, family, togetherness – there is no doubt that she is a perfect fit for UMKC. I can’t say enough about her character and leadership. She is truly respected by her student-athletes, peers, and administration, and I can’t think of a more deserving person for this award."

Posey was named a finalist for the honor alongside former Central Missouri (current Missouri) head men's basketball coach Kim Anderson, Raytown High School and Raytown South High School swimming coach Jim Aziere, Royals manager Ned Yost and the winner, Mike Talamantes, who is the men’s and women’s volleyball head coach at Park University.

Posey will be recognized alongside her fellow finalists on April 15.
