WAC Women' Basketball Player of the Week Announced

DENVER – New Mexico State forward Brianna Freeman has been named Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 23 through Mar. 1.  It is the second consecutive week that Freeman has earned the award.

Freeman, a sophomore from Killeen, Texas (Harker Heights HS), led the way as the Aggies picked up their first-ever WAC regular-season championship and first conference championship in 20 years.  She marked her eighth double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds in an 80-60 win over Texas-Pan American on Saturday.  It was also Freeman’s seventh double-double in WAC play.

Other nominees included: Bakersfield guard/forward Tyonna Outland scored at least 20 points for the 32nd time in her career, posting a season-high 29 points against Seattle U on Saturday…Utah Valley center Sam Loggins averaged 17.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg as the Wolverines earned home wins over Missouri-Kansas City and Chicago State…Grand Canyon forward Cheyenne Hedrington led the Lopes back to the .500 mark with a pair of wins over Chicago State and Missouri-Kansas City, averaging 11.5 ppg and 8.0 rpg…Texas-Pan American center Brittany Bush collected here fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds in a loss at New Mexico State…Missouri-Kansas City forward Grace Mitchell put together a pair of double-doubles in losses at Utah Valley and Grand Canyon.
