DENVER – Grand Canyon’s LeSean Marks and Seattle U’s Shaddye Melu have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 16-22.

Marks, a senior from Chandler, Ariz. (Arizona Christian), raced to the fastest collegiate finisher in both the 110-meter hurdles (14.57 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (52.70 seconds) at the Willie Williams Classic. Both of his times are the fastest times recorded in the conference this season. Marks was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that notched a third-place finish in Tucson.

Melu, a junior from Auburn, Wash. (Auburn Mountainview HS), continues to raise the proverbial bar on his performances, breaking his own school record in the high jump Saturday at the Rose City Preview. He cleared 2.10 meters (6’ 10.75”), finishing second in the event at the meet and moving to the top of the WAC performance list by two inches. His mark was just 1/100th of a meter off the indoor school record he just set at the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. He also moved into seventh place on the WAC performance list in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.26 seconds, finishing third overall in the event at the meet.

Other Track Nominees: Trac Norris, Utah Valley; Trevion Williams, Texas-Pan American; Joe Charbonneau, Seattle U.

Other Field Nominees: Bryan Wilmert, Bakersfield; Daven Russell, Utah Valley; Isaac Samuels, Texas-Pan American; Akintunde Adeyemi, Grand Canyon.
