Men's Recaps

Loyola Chicago 63, Seattle U 48
The Redhawks' season came to an end with a 63-48 loss at Loyola Chicago Wednesday in the semifinals of the College Basketball Invitational. Seattle U finishes the season 18-16.

Seattle U led 42-40 with 5:51 left, but Loyola Chicago closed out the game on a 23-6 run to earn the win. The Redhawks were out-shot 44-40 percent from the field and 40-24 percent from three-point range on the game.

William Powell led the Redhawks with 12 points, while Jadon Cohee added 10. Seniors and leading scorers Isiah Umipig and Jarell Flora were held to just six and two points, respectively.

Seattle U 72, Colorado 65
Seattle U rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit to defeat Colorado 72-65 in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational Monday. With the win, the Redhawks advance to the semifinals, where they will play at Loyola Chicago on Wednesday, March 25.

Seattle U held Colorado to just 33.9 percent shooting from the field and 28.0 percent from downtown. The Redhawks connected on 46.2 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three-point range. The Buffaloes dominated the boards, 44-29, but committed 14 turnovers to Seattle U's nine.

Jarell Flora led all players with 22 points, while Isiah Umipig added 20, as both players hit four three-pointers.

Seattle U 62, Pepperdine 45
The Redhawks defeated Pepperdine 62-45 in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational. Seattle U advances to the CBI quarterfinals, where it will host Colorado on Monday, March 23.

Isiah Umipig led all players with 24 points, including five three-pointers, to go along with seven rebounds. Jarell Flora added 20 points, while William Powell pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Redhawk defense held Pepperdine to just 21 second-half points. The Waves shot just 29.6 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from three-point range and 52.9 percent from the free throw line on the game.

No. 2 Kansas 75, No. 15 New Mexico State 56
The Aggies fell 75-56 to second-seeded Kansas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb., snapping a 13-game winning streak. With the loss, NM State closes out the season 23-11.

Kansas out-shot New Mexico State 54 percent (27-of-50) to 35.7 percent (20-of-56). The Jayjawks also shot 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from three-point range, while the Aggies were 5-of-15 (33 percent) from downtown.

DK Eldridge led the Aggies with 11 points, while Remi Barry and Tshilidzi Nephawe added 10 each.

Northern Arizona 75, Grand Canyon 70
Grand Canyon's season came to an end Wednesday with a 75-70 loss to Northern Arizona in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Antelopes finish the season 17-15.

Royce Woolridge led all players with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting in his collegiate finale. De'Andre Davis added 17 points, while Daniel Alexander posted a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds. Joshua Braun also chipped in 11 points.

Grand Canyon out-shot NAU 41.2 percent to 39.7 percent and was a perfect 11-of-11 at the free throw line. The difference in the game was three-pointers, as the Lumberjacks connected on 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) from downtown, while the Antelopes made just 3-of-22 (13.6 percent).


Women's Recaps

No. 1 Maryland 75, No. 16 New Mexico State 57
Brianna Freeman scored 15 and Sasha Weber added 14 in New Mexico State's first NCAA tournament game since 1988 but it was top-seeded Maryland who moved on, earning a 75-57 win over the Aggies on Saturday in College Park, Md.

The game was much tighter than the traditional 1/16 matchup as the Aggies forced 20 Maryland turnovers, compared with just 11 for NM State. Unfortunately, the Terps dominated the paint as sophomore center Brionna Jones led all players with 22 points and 12 rebounds to earn the postseason double-double.

Louisiana 78, Texas-Pan American 56
The seventh-seeded University of Texas-Pan American Broncs women's basketball team fell to the second-seeded University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 78-56 on Thursday at Earl K. Long Gym in the opening round of the Women's Basketball Invitational.

Senior Brittany Bush led the Broncs (19-15) with her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 12 points with 11 rebounds and four blocks. With 44 blocks, Bush finished with the fifth most blocks in a single-season in program history.

The Broncs still led by five at 40-35, but the Ragin' Cajuns, however, hit 14 of their next 16 shots while outscoring the Broncs 34-12 to take a 70-52 lead and push the game out of reach. The Ragin' Cajuns scored the last 14 points of that run.

UCLA 70, Bakersfield 54
Tyonna Outland scored 28 points as she tried to extend her collegiate career but Bakersfield couldn't knock off UCLA, falling to the Bruins, 70-54, in the first round of the WNIT on Thursday night at Pauly Pavilion in Los Angeles.

The Roadrunners struggled shooting on the night, making just 17-of-59 attempts from the field for 29-percent. Bakersfield stayed in the game with solid free throw shooting, making 17-of-20 from the charity stripe but the Pac-12 Bruins controlled the glass, outrebounding Bakersfield 56-34 in the win.

Outland finished her final collegiate game with 28 points, going 8-for-19 from the field and 10-for-12 on free throws, also adding six rebounds. She was the only Bakersfield player in double-digit scoring. UCLA was led by 26 points from Nirra Fields.
