DENVER – New Mexico State’s Kelsi Gonzalez and Texas-Pan American’s Cristina Santiago Bravo have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 23-29.
Gonzales, a junior from Alamogordo, N.M. (Alamogordo HS), finished the 800-meter race in fourth place with a time of 2:14.37 against 39 other competitors at the Bobcat Invitational this weekend. Gonzales also recorded a time of 57.18 placing her 20th against 46 other competitors in the 400-meter event. Gonzales was a part of the 4x4 relay team, finished second in the Invitational with a time of 3:50.49.
Santiago Bravo, a junior from Alcorcon, Madrid, Spain (IES Galileo Galilei), competed at the 88th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays where she posted an 18th place finish with a throw of 51.45 meters. A day later, Bravo posted a fifth place finish in the hammer throw at the Bobcat Invitational as she set a new career-high with a throw of 55.90 meters, which ranks second in program history and first in the WAC this season. Bravo followed that with a seventh place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 39.01 meters, which ranks sixth in the WAC this season.
