WAC Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Texas-Pan American's Juan Cruz Soria and New Mexico State's Ashvarya Shrivistava have been named the Western Athletic Conference men's and women's Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 23-29.

Soria, a sophmore from San Juan, Argentina (Escuela Modelo de San Juan), went 3-0 in singles play over the weekend while playing all his matches at the No. 1 position. He defeated Grand Canyon's Felix Schueller 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 on Friday to clinch the match for the Broncs over the Antelopes. He followed that with a win over New Mexico State's Strahinja Trecakov in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. He closed out the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kansas City's Airam Castellano for his seventh win of the dual match season and has now won four straight matches. In doubles, Soria teamed with Koby Jansen to beat New Mexico State's Paul Denele and Thomas Douglas 8-2 for their sixth win of the season.

Shrivistava, a junior from Pune, India (Institute of Open Schooling), was the highlight of a tough week for New Mexico State. Shrivistava picked up two singles victories during the week. She defeated Florida Atlantic's Catalina Ene (6-3, 6-0) and beat Barry's Elisabeth Abanda (2-6, 6-4, 10-6).
