DENVER - Seattle U's Patrick Sato and New Mexico State's Camille Orito have been named the Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Week for Apr. 6 - Apr. 12.
Sato, a sophomore from Bellevue, Wash. (Interlake HS), was the top WAC finisher at the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Club. On the course that will host the U.S. Open in June, he fired an eight-over 218 to tie for eighth place among 92 golfers. As a team, the Redhawks finished second among 18 teams.
Orito, a sophomore from Fresno, Calif. (Clovis West HS), took ninth at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic after shooting a five-over 221. She shot a two-under 70 on the final day help the Aggies to a seventh place finish among 22 teams. Orito had the fourth-most birdies with nine over the two-day event.
Other men nominated: Utah Valley's Brayden Eriksen finished fourth at the El Macero Classic, shooting an even-par 216, after taking 30th at the Redhawk Invitational with a 17-over 227…Texas-Pan American's Nicolas Platret finished in a tied for 36th at the Jim West Intercollegiate, shooting a seven-over 223…Missouri-Kansas City's Antoine Rozner shot a 13-over 223 at the Redhawk Invitational to tie for 15th…Grand Canyon's Alex Cline was eight over par at the El Macero Classic to finish tied for 24th.
Other women nominated: Missouri-Kansas City's Susan Kirschenman tied for 10th at the Kansas City Shootout with a 10-over 226…Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit fired a 70 and 72 in the final two rounds to finish seven-over at the SMU Invitational in Dallas, shooting 223…Texas-Pan American's Blake Peterson was 14th at the Battle of the Rock in Riverside California, shooting a 20-over 236…Seattle U's Alexus Song was six-over with a 222 to tie for 13th at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
