DENVER - Missouri-Kansas City's Bryce Miller and Seattle U's Shaddye Melu have been named the Western Athletic Conference men's track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for April 13-19.
Miller, a sophomore from Ashland, Wis. (Ashland HS), had a stand out performance in the men's 5000-meter run with his second place finish at the Bryan Clay Invitational-a career best, first in the WAC, and the UMKC school record. Miller broke the school record by 19 seconds and leads the WAC by 11 seconds.
Melu, a junior from Auburn, Wash. (Auburn Mountainview HS), reached new heights last Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational. He clinched the event victory by clearing 2.09 meters, but on his next attempt, he lept over the bar set at 2.14 meters. He broke his own school record in the high jump, becoming the first Seattle U athlete to clear at least seven feet. He increased his lead on the WAC performance list to 6/100ths of a meter (2.5 inches), and he is now tied for 18th on the NCAA Division I West Performance list in the high jump.
