DENVER- The Western Athletic Conference 2015 men's tennis award winners, as selected by the league's head coaches, were announced tonight at the WAC Tennis Tournament awards reception. Texas-Pan American's Juan Cruz Soria was named WAC Player of the Year, while New Mexico State's Christofer Goncalves was selected as Freshman of the Year. New Mexico State head coach Carlos Vargas earned Coach of the Year honors.
Soria, posted an 8-8 mark this season at No. 1 singles. A two-time WAC Player of the Week, he is 17-13 on the season and undefeated in WAC play.
Goncalves went 9-11 on the year, with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. He went 4-1 in WAC play, at No. 3 singles.
Vargas led his team to the WAC regular-season title with a perfect 5-0 record. The Aggies posted a 9-13 overall record and earned the top seed in this week's WAC Tournament.
