DENVER - Missouri-Kansas City's Courtney Frerichs and Grand Canyon's Jennifer Rolph have been named the Western Athletic Conference women's track and field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 30 - April 5.
Frerichs, a senior from Nixa, Mo. (Nixa HS), ran a career best as well as earned a first place finish in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with her final time of 9:49.06 minutes at the Stanford Invitational on Friday. Not only does this rank her first in the WAC by well over a minute, but also resets her previous record for UMKC's women's steeplechase. That mark currently leads the nation and is a WAC all time record by 19 seconds.
Rolph, a sophomore from Peoria, Ariz. (Liberty HS), cleared the bar at a conference-best height of 3.85 meters en route to taking home first at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational over the weekend in Albuquerque. Her mark helped the Lopes to a women's second place team finish at the Invitational.
