DENVER - Missouri-Kansas City's Airam Castellano and Grand Canyon's Priscilla Annoual have been named the Western Athletic Conference men's and women's Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 30 - April 5.
Castellano, a freshman from Gran Canaria, Spain (IES Perez Galdos), finished 2-0 in both singles and doubles play on the week at home, helping the team to a pair of victories over Saint Louis and Rockhurst University. Castellano has now won seven of his last nine matches at the No. 1 position in singles play.
Annoual, a senior from Peoria, Ariz. (Primavera), closed out the regular season with a 6-0 weekend. Her wins extended her streak in singles to 10-matches and earned her a nine-match doubles streak with her doubles partner Tatum Prudhomme. To open the weekend, she defeated Chicago State's Hanna Pangestu 6-1, 6-1 before taking on Susana Alcaraz from New Mexico State for another straight sets victory. In her final match against Seattle U, she won the match 7-5, 6-2 over Michelle Lui. In doubles, the duo only gave up five games between the three matches, helping the team sweep the doubles point in each match. Annoual finished the regular season with a 13-3 record in singles and a 12-5 record in doubles. Overall, she holds a 46-15 record in her collegiate singles career and a 41-24 record in doubles competition.
