DENVER - North Dakota's Jeff Campbell has been named both Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for May 11 - May 17.
Campbell, a senior from Clearwater, Fla. (Central Catholic HS), had an outstanding week both on the plate, in the field and on the mound as North Dakota clinched the third seed in this week's WAC Tournament at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.
At the plate, Campbell became the first UND player in the Division I era to hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored in Saturday's 11-9 win at New Mexico State. He finished the week 9-for-20 from the plate with six runs scored and six RBIs, also adding a home run in Friday's game to his double, triple and home run on Saturday.
On the mound, he picked up the victory in a 4-3 non-conference win against South Dakota State, striking out five of eight batters over two innings. Campbell then picked up the save in each of the final two games against New Mexico State, allowing just four hits over three innings against the Aggies.
