No. 1 UCLA 9, No. 4 Bakersfield 1 (Elimination Game)
LOS ANGELES - A five-run seventh inning pushed the top-seeded UCLA Bruins past Bakersfield in an elimination game, ending the Roadrunners season with a 9-1 win on Sunday evening at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Kevin Kramer hit a solo home run in the top of the first to put UCLA up early but the Roadrunners kept tight with the Bruins through the first six innings. UCLA exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh, forcing Bakersfield to play from behind against the best bullpen in college baseball.
With WAC Coach of the Year Bill Kernen giving some more players some NCAA experience, the Bruins tacked on a few more runs over the final few innings to take the 9-1 win but not before Nick Vehlewald took advantage of a pitch hitting opportunity, driving a home run over the right field fence to help avoid the shutout.
No. 4 Bakersfield 2, No. 2 Ole Miss 1 (Elimination Game)
LOS ANGELES - Less than 24 hours after playing in their first NCAA Tournament game, the Bakersfield Roadrunners made history once gain, knocking off the Ole Miss Rebels, 2-1, in an elimination game at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles.
Soloman Williams opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a booming two-run blast that put the Roadrunners up 2-0. The Rebels scored in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly after CSUB center fielder Jordie Hein robbed an Old Miss home run to dead center to keep Bakersfield in the lead, 2-1.
Hayden Carter continued to dominate on the mound as the Roadrunners lived to play another day as Bakersfield will take on UCLA.
No. 1 UCLA 7, No. 4 Bakersfield 2
LOS ANGELES - With two top-10 wins already this season, the Bakersfield Roadrunners were confident heading into their first ever NCAA Tournament game but it was the top-seeded UCLA Bruins who earned the opening round win, 4-2, on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles.
