PHOENIX - Grand Canyon University has announced the hiring of Lauren Giesecke as the school's next women's golf coach.
Giesecke comes to GCU from the University of South Florida where she had been an assistant coach under Marci Kornegay since 2013. While at USF, Giesecke helped lead the program to a national ranking and coached USF standout Ashley Burke to all-conference status as well as a berth in the NCAA Regional Tournament.
We continue to build a team of superstars and we are excited that Lauren has decided to join us at GCU," said GCU Vice President of Athletics Mike Vaught. "Lauren brings professional expertise, integrity and a championship plan for our golf program. With the addition of the new Grand Canyon University Golf Course that opens this fall, we feel our women's golf program will grow into a national power."
Giesecke is a 2011 graduate of Indiana University with a degree in exercise science and minor in coaching. She was a four-year member of the Hoosiers' golf team.
"I am excited to join the Grand Canyon University family," said Giesecke. "My goal is to build a quality, competitive program that supports the academic, personal and athletic development of our student athletes. I was impressed with everyone that I met at Grand Canyon University from President Brian Mueller to the student-athletes. It is a campus on the move and I am honored to be a part of this exciting growth. I look forward to this opportunity!"
Prior to arriving at USF, Giesecke worked as the Junior Golf Manager for PGA of America, Georgia Section, helping organize and run junior golf tournaments in the state of Georgia. She also spent time with both the American Junior Golf Association and the International Junior Golf Tour.
Giesecke is from Kokomo, Ind., and prepped at Northwestern High School, captaining an all-conference and top 10 state tournament team. She replaces Don Powers, who was GCU's coach from 2010-15.
