DENVER - CSU Bakersfield's Sabrina Delgado and Utah Valley's Jessica Duffin have been named Western Athletic Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Sept. 14-20.
Delgado, a freshman midfielder from Hacienda Heights, Calif. (Los Altos HS), scored twice in two matches for the ‘Runners. Delgado scored her first collegiate goal with a 48th-minute equalizer on Friday against Colorado College. The freshman followed up her performance by scoring the game-winning goal against Air Force on Sunday, capping a comeback win. She has taken just six shots this year, half of which were on goal and one-third of which were goals, showing the midfielder's timeliness. Delgado is a workhorse for CSUB, as she is second on the team in minutes for field players (672 minutes) and has played all 90 minutes in four of the last five matches.
Duffin, a senior from Smithfield, Utah (Skyview HS), became the all-time career shutouts leader at Utah Valley with a 1-0 shutout win over Portland State on Sunday. Duffin passes Lauren Sack (11) for the top spot, tallying 12 career clean sheets. Duffin also posted six saves in Sunday's win over PSU. On the week, Duffin registered 10 saves, one goal allowed, and one shutout.
