CSU Bakersfield senior setter Luiza Martins has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 21-27. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.

The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, native posted her third double-double of the season to lead the Roadrunners to a 3-2 road win over Grand Canyon to open WAC play last week. Martins finished with a WAC season-high 64 assists and a career-high 24 digs in the victory. She also added four kills and three blocks. Martins' 64 assists are the third-most in a match at the Division I level by a CSUB player. The Roadrunners also tied the school Division I record for kills in a match with 83 and tallied 109 digs, the most in a match this season by any WAC team.

Other nominees included: Missouri-Kansas City's Jessica Hendin posted a pair of double-doubles and averaged 3.50 kills, 2.20 digs and 0.70 blocks per set as the Kangaroos went 1-1 on the week ... Nathalie Castellanos of NM State finished with 10 kills on .429 hitting, three assists and two blocks in a sweep of UTRGV ... Seattle U's Martina Samadan averaged 3.44 kills, 0.89 blocks and 0.33 service aces per set as the Redhawks opened WAC play 2-0 on the road ... Haley Durham of UT Rio Grande Valley averaged 2.00 kills and 2.00 blocks per set on the week ... Utah Valley's Lauren Bakker averaged 3.25 kills on .392 hitting and 1.62 blocks per set in a pair of matches last week.
