DENVER - Utah Valley's Rebecca MaWhinney has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 18 through Jan. 24.

MaWhinney, a junior forward from Midway, Utah (Wasatch HS), helped the Wolverines bust a five-game losing streak with wins over Missouri-Kansas City and Chicago State. After scoring 20 points to lead UVU to the win over UMKC, she recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and a career-high 15 rebounds against the Cougars.

Other nominees included: CSU Bakersfield's Alyssa Shannon averaged 14.0 ppg and 2.5 apg as the Roadrunners dropped a pair of games at UT Rio Grande Valley and NM State … Grand Canyon's Courtney Hayes posted 14 assists to go with 11 rebounds in a blowout win over Chicago State … Missouri-Kansas City's Aries Washington averaged 17.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg as the Roos split a pair of conference games on the road … NM State's Brooke Salas averaged 16.0 ppg and 5.5 rpg as the Aggies remained perfect in WAC play with wins over Seattle U and CSU Bakersfield … Seattle U's Delanie Parry hit the game-winning three-pointer with six seconds left to have UTRGV its first conference loss of the season … UT Rio Grande Valley's Anushka Maldonado tied a career high in assists (4) and steals (3) against Seattle U, also adding 13 points in the late loss.
