Air Force defeated UNLV and lost to Harvard in a tri-meet in Las Vegas. The loss to Harvard was the Falcons' first dual meet loss of the season. Air Force beat UNLV for the first time since 2007 … The Falcons host Denver in the sprint championships, Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Cadet Natatorium.
CSU BAKERSFIELD
The Roadrunners defeated both UC Santa Cruz and Fresno Pacific in a tri-meet in Santa Cruz, Calif. on Saturday. The ‘Runner women wrapped up their dual meet season and will begin preparing for the WAC Championships. The ‘Runner men have a home dual meet against No. 2 Cal before they can begin preparing for the WAC Championships.
NORTHERN COLORADO
UNC defeated both Colorado Mesa (208-92) and Western State Colorado (184-115) to move the team to 7-9 overall on the season in meets
WAC Swimmer & Diver of the Week
Air Force Academy's Michael Barnosky and CSU Bakersfield's Brayden Greenwald have been named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Jan. 18-24.
Barnosky, a senior from Boise, ID (Boise HS) won both the 100 and 200 breast stroke against Harvard and UNLV to help lead Air Force to a win over Harvard. He also swam on the 200 medley relay team that won with a time of 1:28.85.
Greenwald, a sophomore from Henderson, Nev. (Coronado HS) continued a strong season with a pair of wins on Saturday. Greenwald smashed his personal best on the 1-meter board with a score of 336.10, resetting the CSUB all-time record in the event. His mark was also good enough to move the sophomore into second this season in the WAC. Greenwald also won the 3-meter board with the second-best mark of his career, 301.80. He remains fifth all-time for the ‘Runners on the 3-meter.
Northern Colorado's Valeria Mihhailova and Northern Arizona's Chelsea Jackson have been named Western Athletic Conference Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Jan. 18-24.
Mihhailova, a sophomore from Johvi, Estonia (Johvi Gymnasium) picked up top points in both the 100 back and 50 free for both meets and aided in a second place finish overall (among the three teams) in both relays to help the Bears to their win over both opponents. She swam the 100 back in a time of 58.08 and the 50 free in a time of 24.89.
Jackson, a senior from Flagstaff, Ariz. (Northland Prep) had a record day in NAU's dual meet versus New Mexico in front of her hometown crowd, setting new career-best scores on both springboards and winning both events. She started her day by breaking her own Wall Aquatic Center 1-meter pool record of 303.15 with a new lifetime best score of 315.68, which allowed her to move up to third all-time in the school record book. Jackson made an even bigger leap on NAU's all-time top performances with her career-best winning 3-meter score of 331.88 and is now second all-time in school history. Both performances led a one-two-three sweep for NAU on the diving boards.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2015 WAC Swimming and Diving Championship travels to Houston, Texas. The UNLV men's swim team captured the WAC title while the Northern Arizona women's team took the crown at the WAC championships last year.
