DENVER - CSU Bakersfield's Alyssa Shannon has been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 28 through Jan. 3.

Shannon, a senior guard from Bakersfield, Calif. (Stockdale HS), posted a pair of double-digit scoring efforts as the ‘Runners split their final two non-conference games of the season. Against Hawai'i, she recorded a game-high 15 points, adding four assists, four steals and a pair of rebounds. In Sunday's big win over UC Irvine, she scored 10 points with five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Other nominees included: Chicago State's Layne Murphy recorded a double-double against Northern Illinois and scored a career-high 24 points against Milwaukee … Missouri-Kansas City's Taylor Leathers scored a career-high 18 points in a win at Morgan State … NM State's Brianna Freeman led the Aggies with 10.0 ppg in a split at the Fordham Holiday Classic … Seattle U's Kaylee Best scored a season-high 21 points at CSUN and dished out a career-high 11 assists at Oregon … UT Rio Grande Valley's Shawnte' Goff posted her third 20-plus point game of the season in a win over Evangel.
