DENVER - Northern Arizona's Alina Staffeldt and CSU Bakersfield's Carlee Burks have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Oct. 3-9.
Staffeldt, a junior from Hannover, Germany, posted one of three overall wins in Northern Arizona's dual against Arizona and Hawai‘i. She won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.11. Staffeldt also placed fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.47. Staffeldt has the top times in the WAC for both 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly.
Burks, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., earned two Top 10 finishes at Fresno State's Chick-Fil-A Invitational. She won the 3-meter springboard with a score of 284.15, beating 24 other competitors. Burks also placed ninth on the 1-meter board with a score of 237.90.
Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Paola Hernandez finished third in the 100 free at the Chick-Fil-A Invitational with a time of 51.94 and posted CSUB's fastest times in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 100 fly and 200 IM. North Dakota's Steph Frey won first in the Medley Relay, 100 free, and 100 breaststroke in a win against St. Cloud.
Other diver nominees: Northern Arizona's Tanya Kurach won the 1-meter springboard with a score of 281.45 and placed fifth in the 3-meter.
