WAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER - Northern Dakota's Jacob Wielinski and Grand Canyon's Pietro Toscani have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the week, respectively, for Oct. 17-23.

Wielinski, a sophomore from Moundsview, Minn., won four individual events and was part of the winning 400 medley relay against South Dakota. His time in the mile was more than 40 seconds faster than his competition. Wielinski is ranked third in the WAC in the 500 free and his 400 IM time is ranked fourth in the conference.

Toscani, a freshman from Sao Palo, Brazil, made his first NCAA competition debut against UTPB and was only eight points from becoming an NCAA Zone qualifier on the men's 3-meter. He won the 1-meter with a score of 272.5 and also won the 3-meter with a score of 312.8.

Other swimmer nominees: CSU Bakersfield's Justice Kramer placed in the top three in three different events at the Malibu Invitational ... Grand Canyon's Bogdan Plavin won both the 50 free and 100 free against UTPB.

Other diver nominees: North Dakota's Sam Howard finished second in the 3-meter and third on the 1-meter on Friday, and took second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter on Saturday.
