LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Grand Canyon had the highest team grade-point average (GPA) among all Division I softball programs and the WAC had 29 student-athletes from three schools garner Easton Scholar-Athlete honors with a GPA of 3.5 or better during the 2015-16 school year the National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation (NFCA) announced Thursday.
The Lopes posted a team GPA of 3.67 in 2015-16 to lead all Division I programs. It marks the sixth time in program history the Lopes have earned the first-place honor and the first time since 2012. It is also the first time the program has earned the honor since transiting to Division I.
The WAC had 29 student-athletes from Grand Canyon, UMKC and NM State earn Easton Scholar-Athlete honors after posting a 3.5 or better GPA for the 2015-16 academic year. GCU led the way with 17 honorees, while UMKC and NM State had six apiece.
